When the world came to a halt back in March 2020, we were fortunate enough to be “locked down” together and started livestreaming weekly concerts. With over 50 episodes, “FreePlay Fridays at 4!” became a virtual meeting place for music lovers around the world, and inspired us to create new repertoire. Talk To Me is a lyric from Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On. We chose this title because we see music as a tool for communication and healing, and we created these arrangements during a time when human connection is especially challenging. We hope the music on Talk To Me speaks to you.
Go Back Forward juxtaposes complex and innovative reinventions of well-known songs with intimate two-voice performances. We’ve managed to fit in everything from Bach to the Beatles, Mingus to Grieg, with some Joni, Buffy and Neil thrown in and filtered through Esquivel and south India. And it’s all a cappella.
FreePlay’s self-titled debut album was released in 2009. The album is a combination of the our live performance repertoire, some original music, and a number of our most popular choral arrangements.
